The Duke was right. Sequim Bay is a special place. It
is
a beautiful, peaceful bay, almost equally accessible to Seattle, the San
Juan Islands, and the wide Pacific.
While anchored aboard his "Wild Goose" in Sequim Bay, the movie great envisioned a marina in the scenic, protected waters. The family donated 22 acres of land, and, under the ownership
and
auspices of the Port of Port Angeles, this facility is indeed, a
special place to visit. Permanent and transient moorage is available.
Moorage slips are assigned on a first-come-first-serve basis. Power and
water are easily accessible. The fuel dock dispenses gas, diesel, and
oils.
Restrooms, showers, laundry facilities, dump station, and waste pump-out
are
on-site. Towing can be arranged. Other amenities include a restaurant
and
grocery. Provisions, charts, gifts, souvenirs, ice, and charters are
accessible. Nearby attractions include golf courses, lodging, a casino,
airport, state park, and marine repairs. Attractively landscaped picnic
areas are provided, and shellfish harvesting is possible along the
beach.
For those who would like to know the history of the area, an information
kiosk is featured. A bronze statue of The Duke, from a favorite role in
She
Wore a Yellow Ribbon, is on display. The main building has a social
center
with banquet rooms and a dance floor for public use. This is becoming
popular with yacht clubs for rendezvous parties and cruise destinations.
If
arriving by car with a trailerable boat, there is paved parking for cars
and
trailers, and an excellent launch ramp. The marina is only three miles
from
the community of Sequim.
